I have been honored to serve as the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Area Regional Training Group since 2014 and I am extremely proud of the work we are doing collaboratively across the LA region.
Our motto is to "Train As One" with the goal of preparing 9,000 firefighters for any type of incident in the Los Angeles region. Training everyone on the basics of all special operations within a common command system acts as a force multiplier that ramps up resource leverage, actually increasing the capacity of first responders and special teams to handle the most critical work to mitigate any emergency.
To say we are in an exciting time in the Fire Service would be an understatement. The advances achieved with regard to training and firefighter safety are astounding and the members of the RTG are honored to assist every agency within our region in delivering the highest quality training and education while staying current with the latest technological advances associated with that training.
Our online training program (TDM) has helped us reach our goal of training the LA region’s firefighters as one from Lancaster to Long Beach. This type of training delivery will propel the RTG and all 29 fire agencies into the forefront of training not just in California but the United States.
The threat of terrorism is unfortunately a threat that is here to stay as evidenced by attacks in the United States and around the world. While we all hope that a threat never materializes into an event however, we must prepare and train as if it could happen at any moment.
Advances in Urban Search and Rescue techniques along with new educational opportunities with Hazardous Materials training and participation with our Green Cell simulation training will aid the LA region in our efforts to be prepared to mitigate and respond to any event that might occur in the Los Angeles area and beyond.
There are considerable cost to keep the LA Area Fire Service in a state of operational readiness that goes beyond tax revenue and grants. With your financial support, the Los Angeles region's firefighters will continue to be on the forefront in fire service education, training & equipment. Your donation goes directly back to you and your community. By funding regionalized training, any emergency is handled more seamlessly thus increasing the fluidity of the operation.
Respectfully,
Chief Jim Birrell
RTG Executive Director
